Interior home decorating can be a wonderful outlet for your creativity and a way to surround yourself and your family with rooms that will offer warmth and a feeling of comfort. Never underestimate the amount of imagination that you possess. There are wonderful magazines, television shows and internet sites that will start you on your way. Once you begin, there will be no end of little projects you will design to enhance your home.

Always start with a budget in order to stay focused and not create stress worrying about cost. Then find your dream room. Any style you choose can be obtained within even a small budget using clever copies and dedicated shopping methods. Carry a little notebook with you because you never know when genius may strike and when you will get an amazing idea or find an item that you want to use.

Inventory your own furniture, rugs, pictures and accessories to see which will fit into your finished space. Decide on your main colors and find more colors and tones that will harmonize. Maybe go for something completely different than you have ever tried before. If you chose a room from an interior home decorating magazine, examine it for unique objects that might be found in a second hand store, or a little antique shop or even garage sales. Many used pieces can be cleaned, stained or repainted. Try using stencils and decoupage on interesting little cabinets or chairs or tables to turn them into heirloom pieces for your family.

To create a picture area, find an old book of artistic, colorful flowers or bird prints. Frame them using all black frames or pull a color from the room for the mats. Any subject that will fit into the décor of the room can be a great addition to the ambiance. Lamps will add a warm touch to the room with soft lighting. Choose unusual lamps, again looking at the little old shops and estate sales.

Put together a reading area with a couple of comfortable chairs, a book table and a cleverly styled reading lamp. Perhaps add a small collection of glass to the table for effect. Another idea is to buy inexpensive lampshades and cover them with a fabric from the room or decoupage family photos on them.

Remember, even the high end room you have tried to copy will always have your stamp on it, your own interior home decorating style.
